Jurupa Community Services District Receives Four Industry Awards From The California Water Environment Association
Jurupa Valley, CA (April 11, 2023) – Jurupa Community Services District (JCSD) was presented with four Santa Ana River Basin Section (SARBS) awards from the California Water Environment Association (CWEA). The CWEA awards recognize outstanding water industry contributions and celebrate the wastewater professionals who go above and beyond.
“I could not be prouder to see our dedicated and innovative professionals be recognized for their work,” said JCSD Board President Lupe Nava. “JCSD has built a culture of success that our customers can be proud of.”
The awards were received in four categories: Collection System Person of the Year, Pretreatment, Pollution Prevention & Stormwater (P3S) Person of the Year, Operations and Maintenance Gimmicks and Gadgets, and Collection Systems Gimmicks and Gadgets.
Rudy Soria, JCSD’s Water Utility Technician III, was awarded the Silver Collection System Person of the Year, recognizing an individual’s innovation and excellence in collection systems maintenance. Rudy also received first place in the Gimmicks & Gadgets category for successfully inventing The Soria Sag-Finder. Rudy’s invention is a gauge attachment used in sewer pipe inspections, resulting in cost-saving solutions for JCSD. In a collaborative effort, Rudy supports other departments when analyzing newly built pipes, conducting pipe assessments, and crosstraining staff. Rudy’s innovative and collaborative efforts helped JCSD recently celebrate a record achievement of over five years with no sanitary sewer overflows.
Quincy McCall, JCSD’s Industrial Waste Inspector I, was awarded the Gold P3S Person of the Year, which recognizes professionals for exceptional achievement and contribution to the profession while being an active member of the CWEA. McCall is noted for being responsible, reliable, and a natural leader. He is known for his innovative practices, including finding ways to extend meter plexiglass and battery lifespans. Additionally, McCall has been noted as the trainer and mentor for both new JCSD employees and employees from surrounding agencies.
Aaron Guydosh, JCSD’s Mechanical Systems Technician II, won first place in the Operations and Maintenance Gimmicks and Gadgets Award. Guydosh’s invention, the Guydosh SC-Lift provides a safer solution when replacing the panels in a shaftless screw conveyor and saves the agency and ratepayers thousands of dollars annually.
“These awards recognize our industry professionals for their forward-thinking and creativity in developing solutions for performing routine tasks or functions in maintenance, operations, or construction,” says Chris Berch, General Manager at JCSD. “We are really proud of our awesome team.”
The awards were presented at the annual conference in Anaheim, California, by CWEA, an organization that aims to enhance the education and technology of California’s wastewater industry, to promote sound policies which will benefit society, and to protect the quality of our water resources today.
