JURUPA VALLEY, CA (January 24, 2019) – Jurupa Community Services District (JCSD) residents are doing their part in conserving water – our most precious natural resource. Residents used 207,834,900 less gallons (31%) in December 2018 when compared to the same month in 2017. After some much-needed rain, Riverside County along with most of southern California is still experiencing a moderate drought. “Water conservation remains important because our groundwater basins have not had time to recover from the 2011-2017 drought,” said Board President Jane Anderson. As we approach spring and summer months, it is important to continue to be mindful of our water consumption.
JCSD relies solely on local groundwater stored naturally in underground aquifers. Groundwater levels dropped during the drought, and it will take years, before it recovers to pre-drought levels. For this reason, JCSD has remained at Level 2 of the District’s Water Shortage Contingency Plan.
JCSD is asking customers to continue to follow mandatory, year-round water-use efficiency best practices including:
- Irrigate only between 8:00 p.m. – 8:00 a.m., no more than four days per week, and for no more than 10 minutes per station per day
- Repair all leaks
- A shutoff nozzle must be used to wash vehicles
- Hosing down of hard surfaces (driveways and sidewalks) is strictly prohibited
- Eliminate run-off from properties to sidewalks, streets, gutters or storm drains.
