JCSD’s Water Use Insight Initiative is the overall program encompassing the installation of Advanced Metering Infrastructure, which includes upgrades to customer meters, water efficiency education, and implementation of the customer portal.
AMI is a technology that enables the remote and automatic collection of water usage data from your water meter to JCSD. This system allows for more accurate billing, enhanced leak detection, and real-time water use monitoring.
AMI provides several benefits, including access to your real-time water usage data, early leak detection, and more accurate water bills. It empowers you to manage and optimize your water usage, potentially leading to cost savings.
There is no direct cost to customers for the installation of the new AMI meters. This upgrade is part of JCSD’s commitment to enhancing water service and efficiency at no additional cost to you. JCSD has secured grant funding and has secured resources through long-term planning for this project.
The installation process is quick, typically taking up to 45 minutes. Your water service will be briefly interrupted, usually for up to 25 minutes, to allow for the new meter to be installed.
Customers do not need to be home for the installation if our technicians have clear and unobstructed access to your meter. Please ensure the meter area is free from obstructions and pets are secured.
Once the AMI project is completed, customers will have access real-time water usage data through JCSD’s new customer portal. Instructions on how to register and navigate the portal will be provided post-installation.
