Please find several frequently asked questions (FAQs) below regarding Drinking Water Warnings/Boil Water Notices.

A Drinking Water Warning/Boil Water Notice is a precautionary notification to consumers when routine water quality testing indicates the presence of contaminants in excess of levels set by State standards. A Boil Water Notice was issued by the District after routine testing of our water supply found the presence of E. coli bacteria at a water source before the disinfection process. The affected water source was immediately removed from service.

All tap water used for activities such as drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth, and washing dishes should be boiled before use. Bring water to a rolling boil for at least one minute, then let it cool before use. Alternatively, you may use bottled water. The District is providing bottled by the case at no charge while supplies last. Pick-up sites are as follows:

  • At the corner of Iberia Ct. and Space Center Ct. in Jurupa Valley.
  • Northeast corner of Camino Real and Mission Blvd. in Jurupa Valley.

If you need assistance to access the bottled water, please contact us at (951) 685-7434

Yes, bathing or showering is safe, but take precautions to avoid swallowing water. Young children, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems are more vulnerable and should take sponge baths to reduce the risk of ingesting water.

Yes, you can wash your hands with tap water during a Drinking Water Notice/Boil Water Notice. Be sure to wash thoroughly with soap for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.

Dishwashers: Only use your dishwasher if it has a sanitize cycle. Otherwise, dishes should be washed by hand using boiled water.

Washing Machine: It is safe to use the washing machine but avoid washing items like baby clothes during this period.

No, pets should drink boiled or bottled water during the Boil Water Notice to avoid the potential for illness.

Coffee makers: Most do not heat water to a high enough temperature to kill bacteria. Use boiled water instead.

Ice makers: Discard any ice made during the notice, and do not use ice makers until the notice is lifted.

Other appliances: Avoid using any appliances that require water unless they can be used with pre-boiled or bottled water.

Symptoms of E. coli infection include diarrhea, cramps, nausea, vomiting, and sometimes fever. These symptoms typically occur 2–5 days after exposure. If you experience severe symptoms, contact a healthcare provider.

The Drinking Water Warning/Boil Water Notice will remain in effect until testing shows that the water is safe to drink again. We are working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible and will notify you when the notice is lifted.

The sample was taken at the water source before disinfection, not in the distribution system. The District removed the water source from the system. We are working to disinfect and flush the water system and are conducting additional tests to ensure the water meets safety standards. Once the tests confirm the water is free of contaminants, the notice will be lifted.

We will notify customers through official channels such as our website, public postings, and phone calls when the Drinking Water Warning/Boil Water Notice has been lifted.

After the notice is lifted, it’s recommended that you:

– Flush your plumbing by running cold water faucets for several minutes.

– Discard any ice made during the boil notice and clean your ice maker.

– Replace water filters, as they may be contaminated.
