Water, a seemingly unending resource, plays a significant role in our lives, yet the infrastructure needed to maintain access to our homes and businesses is often out of sight, and therefore, out of mind. You wake up, shower, make your coffee, feed your family, flush the toilet, wash your laundry… but have you thought about where your water comes from or where your wastewater goes?
October 21 is the Value of Water Campaign’s annual Imagine a Day Without Water, where people across the United States will engage in opportunities to learn about our nation’s water systems and the hard work that goes into ensuring a day without water doesn’t become a reality for your community.
Jurupa Community Services District (JCSD) is committed to providing customers with safe, reliable, and high-quality water. To accomplish this goal, JCSD operates and maintains a vast network of pipelines, storage, and treatment facilities to deliver water to customers and provide wastewater services. On a continuous basis, JCSD continues to assess future water supply reliability and protecting infrastructure with state-of-the-art technologies, all while continuing to invest in a wide range of local and regional programs to promote quality water service to customers.
With increasingly dry climate conditions, JCSD is also working hard to implement a recycled water program. Recycled water is a drought resilient water source that offsets the use of precious potable water for irrigation. Furthermore, customers in Jurupa Valley and Eastvale can do their part in reducing water use and taking advantage of JCSD’s water conservation rebate programs. As outlined in the Water Management Plan, these projects and programs work towards diversifying water supply sources and supply reliability.
Water is the lifeline of our communities. Investing in our water and wastewater infrastructure will ensure you have a fresh glass of water each morning, firefighters the ability to fight annual wildfires, hospitals to stay safe and sanitary, and vast economic opportunities. When you imagine a day without water this year, think about how central water is to your daily life.
Keeping water services out of sight and out of mind is an old-fashioned model. With a better understanding of water supply and sewer services, the public can become better stewards of their utilities by contributing to the care and improvements of their water infrastructure.
We know how important water is. It’s up to us to keep the conversation going and ensure that the systems that deliver this valuable resource are reliable for generations to come.
