A Generational Treasure

In 1960, Desi Arnaz, Sr. built a home in Corona, CA, that mirrored his childhood home in Santiago de Cuba, Cuba. The home would become his playground away from the Hollywood life, where he would entertain his good friends in the rich ranchlands.

After his death in 1986, the Altfillisch family purchased and relocated the house to its current location. When the surrounding 365 acres were sold years later for a new housing development, the deal stipulated that the house, with its unique architectural details and historic charm, remain intact. As such, in 2015, it was purchased by JCSD as part of the Santa Ana River Trail Extension Project.

JCSD is committed to renovating the 2.5-acre property to allow the community to enjoy it for years to come. Through a two-phased construction process, both the exterior and interior of the Desi House and surrounding property will be developed.

Phase I

Completed in May 2020, Phase 1 consisted of improvements related to the land surrounding the house, such as installation of a lighted concrete path of travel; open turf; two gazebos; water fountain; various trees and plant materials; parking lot; restroom; garden benches; new patios; and a monument sign.

JCSD is committed to the completion of this project in a timely manner, and appreciate your understanding should the project be delayed due to unforeseen circumstances. We are also committed to being a great neighbor and partnering with the Estancia HOA, not only for the remainder of the construction, but indefinitely into the future as well.

Anticipated Use of the Site

The vision of the Desi House is to be a premier recreation and leisure venue aimed at hosting a variety of activities and events to complement the aesthetic character of the facility while meeting the needs of Eastvale Community.

To accomplish this vision, the JCSD Parks & Recreation Department team has identified a variety of recreation programs and services to be held at the facility, including senior/active adult activities, pre-school development classes, intergenerational activities, and art and photography courses.

The Desi House may also offer unique and intimate special event and celebration opportunities (small weddings, art exhibits, etc.) that place the highest regard on exceptional customer service and ensuring the neighboring community is not affected.

Additional usage may also include corporate retreats, civic group meetings, Estancia HOA meetings, charity events, and trail access meet-ups. More detailed information regarding tentative class listings, recreation program schedules, and facility reservation policies will be announced soon.
